Dr. Michal Luntz is a physician-scientist and surgeon specializing in Otology and Implantable Hearing Solutions and a passionate advocate for hearing health. She is the president of the Israel Society for Auditory Research, a board member of Bekol, Israel’s organization for hard-of-hearing individuals, a member of the Global CI Living Guidelines Task Force, a founding member of the Cochlear Implant Community of Action (CIICA), and a co-founder and CSO of Humelan, a tech-enabled platform dedicated to empowering individuals with hearing loss to achieve their full hearing and communication potential.
With over 40 years of experience in patient-centered hearing care, otologic and cochlear implant surgery, post-market surveillance, and bionics, Dr. Luntz combines her professional expertise with her personal experience of life with hearing loss. During her 21 years as chair of the ENT department and director of the ear, hearing, and cochlear implant program at Bnai Zion MC – Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, she addressed the daily need to provide hearing solutions to those who could benefit from them, ensuring they received the necessary support to achieve typical life milestones. During this time, she successfully advocated for full CI reimbursement for adults in Israel (2006) and for CI accessories. She later supported the reimbursement of hearing aids for all ages, more frequent upgrading of CI and implantable hearing aid processors, as well as CI for single-sided deafness.
Dr. Luntz is deaf and uses cochlear implants to hear. In 2024, she marks her 20th year as a cochlear implant user.
Her unique perspective enables her to create innovative solutions for those living with hearing loss.
