BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Alexandre Karkas, MD, PhD, HDR is Professor of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University Medical Center of Saint-Étienne and Jean Monnet University, Saint-Étienne, France. He specializes in otology, auditory implants, skull base surgery, and robotic and endoscopic ear surgery. He is also certified by the European Board of ORL-HNS.

Prof. Karkas holds a Master’s degree in Science, Technologies and Health, a PhD in Biotechnology, and the French Habilitation to Direct Research (HDR). His research at the SAINBIOSE Laboratory (Inserm U1059) focuses on cochlear imaging, cochlear implantation, vestibular schwannomas, and translational otologic research. He leads and participates in several national and European clinical research projects and is actively involved in undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.

He is a member of several international scientific societies, including EAONO, CEORL-HNS, SFORL, CFORL, and AFON, and serves as reviewer and editorial board member for leading international journals. Prof. Karkas has authored 79 peer-reviewed publications, contributed 11 book chapters, delivered more than 135 presentations at national and international conferences, and maintains active international collaborations, including humanitarian cochlear implantation missions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
